Finally got a job!

Yes, I can finally say I am working now. A manager at Smiths grocery called me back. I went for an interview and was hired on the spot. I was hired on February 7th and started working on the ninth. I have been working the past 4 days at different stores and will continue to "float" at different stores until I have a "home" store. It is fun going to different stores, meeting new people and learning about crazy Las Vegas. The customers in all the stores are real friendly, which makes it nice. Even the employees are very nice, also a little bonus. Well, time to go, later.

Silverton Casino Application

Well, today I went to the Silverton Casino for an interview. I showed up all dressed up, signed a few papers and was told the hiring manager was in meetings and he would call me back if he was interested. So, here I wait again for something to happen. I also have "interview" on Thursday for the valet at the Venetian Casino/Hotel. Hopefully that goes a little better.

Grocery Store Calls

Well, today I also made a few calls to the local grocery stores to see if they needed help (I have 11 years grocery experience). After about 30 minutes on the phone, I got the numbers to 2 division/hiring managers and left messages with both of them and am again waiting for their call. I don't really want to work for a grocery again, but I have to get a job!

Station Casinos Job Application

Well, I just submitted an online application to Station Casinos. Stations Casinos were #54 on Fortune Magazines 100 Best Companies to Work For, 2005 list. They ask the basic info plus a few questions about job history and why you want to work there. Also, at the end of the application, they ask if you want to submit your application to the other Station Casinos in the area. I have noticed that the casino industry has the best online application system I have seen so far. That makes it nice to submit information faster. They will hopefully contact me soon about the job.

Dogs and chicken

Well, I screwed up today. I was eating a whole roasted chicken at my gf's place and went to the kitchen, forgetting I had left it on the table (coffee table). Of course, here comes Pickle, the 35 lb. wiener dog with an appetite. He ripped it off the table and tore into that thing. One thing you don't do with him is try to stop him from eating his favorite food. We could not risk him choking on the bones so I risked loosing a finger and grabbed him from behind and pulled him away while my gf grabbed the chicken. He's an overall great dog but DO NOT take food from him, that is dangerous. Anyway, it all worked out and he didn't bite me. So I definitely learned my lesson.

Dog sitting

Well, here it is Sunday. I spent basically the entire weekend at my gf's house watchin (feeding) her 2 dogs and doing homework (taking 2 online classes for my AA degree). She has a 35 lb. wiener dog named Pickle and a 3 lb. Chihuahua named Fiona. Pickle thinks when mom is gone, he can eat and eat and eat, but I didn't let him. All he wants to do its follow me to the kitchen to see if I'm either gonna feed him or drop something for him to eat. For the most part, they are great. But they don't get along yet so we have to keep them separated for now. Let me tell ya, the little one can terrorize way more than the wiener dog (who by the way is 10 years old, so he is kinda mellow). You leave her in a room for a few minutes and she can rip the carpet, chew up toys and basically make a mess. So I'm gonna go clean for the rest of the day. Later.

Finding at job at the Mirage Hotel/Casino

Well, yesterday I went in for a preliminary interview for Valet Attendant and the Mirage Hotel/Casino. Basically, I filled out an online interview with information about work and residence history. Then, I went into the employment center at Treasure Island and talked to a screener. He asked me a few questions about jobs and verified my info. He then told me he would forward my application (I'm guessing I passed the screen) to the Valet department manager and he would contact me within 2 week. So at this point I just have to wait.

Finally made a post.

Hey now. Here it is finally. This is my first official post to the blog thing. Gonna document my Las Vegas life online for the whole world to see, especially my family. Now they (and you) can come here to see what's goin on with my crazy move to Las Vegas. Don't be afraid to ask/post questions for me about living here in Las Vegas. Hopefully I can answer questions about being here, especially if you are thinking about moving here. OK. Have a good one.
